We hold our annual club championships in June/July each year over the course of three weekends. It is a condition of membership that everyone enters and swims in the Club Championship and squad places maybe withdrawn if no swims are recorded. It is also an opportunity for our teachers and coaches to assess individual swimmers progress and will be used to help when deciding squad moves and team selection.
At the club championships, all 50m events and above will use the touch pads (AOE-Automated Officiating Equipment). Please note that times and places displayed on these are an indication only and final placing and timings will be decided by the referee.
Hertford S.C. has again licensed this years championships to ensure that all 50m races and above can be recorded in the British Swimming rankings for entry into the County Championships and will again pay the additional fee for each swim, so it is free to enter. Please remember that younger swimmers can also enter the Junior championship (this is a good opportunity for 9 year olds and above to record times in 200m free and medley and also 50m in all stokes).
14th July 2018, John Warner, Hoddesdon
Well that’s Club Champs over for another year.
There wasn’t any new club records set but there were two new club champs records …Josh Holland beating Ben’s under 15 100m free Club Champs record. Even though Sarah hadn’t trained much, she still managed to beat her own 50m back Club Champs record.
I think one that stands out for me is Laura’s 200m IM which was only 5 seconds off of Emma Lythaby’s record set in 2007, even though she still has a year left in this age group! Emma was a very talented swimmer who set a number of records so it’s pleasing to see these records being chased.
On the night, my son’s trophy went to Ella Cannell. Hopefully Ben will be back over the summer and can present Ella with the trophy himself but has sent this message to her… Congratulations Ella! I’ve been looking closely at results for the past two weeks and was able to narrow it down to a few swimmers. The one race that put you above others was your great performance in the 100m back, so well done. Keep doing what you’re doing. Ben
I’ve attached the points trophy results, congratulations to those swimmers who came first who’ll be awarded a trophy they can keep on the presentation night, Friday 19th September - details to follow. Congratulations to Katie Gorman and George Reynolds for achieving the highest points - 40 each out of a possible 42.
As you would be able to see over the three weekends, we have to ask officials and even an announcer from other clubs. We have a good relationship with both Ware and Hoddesdon but we should be able to support ourselves so please become involved with Hertford otherwise we might not be able to run the event in the future.
