Swimming Squads

The make up of the different squads are reviewed regularly by the Hertford Swimming Club coaching team. Potential movement between squads is also reviewed regularly by the Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach with the principal goal of ensuring that all swimmers swim in sessions that are appropriate to their level of performance and commitment to training as best as possible. Swimmer welfare and development is paramount when considering squad moves, also taking into account the varying capacity and composition of different groups which changes throughout the year.

Guideline entry criteria to Hertford Swimming Club squads (from January 2023)

Performance +

At least 2 county consideration times. Attends a minimum of 75% of sessions for normal squad in the previous month. Invite can be revoked if attendance falls below requirement. Coaches discretion. 

Performance  Age 13 +

Attending a minimum of 60% of sessions in Competitive squad. Hold a minimum training pace of  1:30 in FC.  Coaches discretion. 

Competitive  Age 12+

Attending a minimum of 60% of sessions in Development squad. Hold a minimum training pace of  1:45 in FC.  Coaches discretion. 

Development  Age 11+

Attending a minimum of 60% of sessions in Whales squad. Hold a minimum training pace of  2:00 in FC.  Coaches discretion. 

Whales Age 10 - 14

Attending a minimum of 60% of sessions in Sharks squad. Be able to swim 100m in all 4 strokes.  Coaches discretion. 

Sharks Age 9 - 13

Attending a minimum of 60% of sessions in Swordfish squad. Be able to swim 50m in all 4 strokes.  Coaches discretion. 

Swordfish Age 9 - 13

Be able to swim 25m in all 4 strokes.  Be able to maintain the speed of the squad. Coaches Discretion

Seals Age 7 - 11

Be able to swim 25m in 3 recognised strokes - BR kick, Fly kick.   Coaches discretion. 

Otters Age 6 - 10

Be able to swim 25m in 2 recognised strokes.  Coaches discretion. 

Seahorse  Age 5 - 9

Be able to with of confidence pool without stopping in 2 recognised strokes.  Coaches discretion. 

Fitness Age 11 +

Be able to swim 50m in 3 recognised strokes

Our fees are competitive and vary depending on the number of sessions allocated to a particular squad. No charge is made for initial trial sessions, and fees will be advised when a place is allocated.
