Saturday 2nd March 2019, Stevenage Swimming Center
For many of our swimmers this was the first time that they’ve represented Hertford S.C. and from the very positive attitude on poolside, I know they were very proud to wear the Hertford hat.
In all, 27 swimmers competed at the Development meet, many of these for the first time and out of a total of 91 swims, there were 74 (78%) which were PB’s along with 12 golds, 12 silvers and 9 bronze medals!. Every swimmers achieved at least one PB which is something they should be very proud of.
Competing isn’t just about winning medals and beating your PB, but also practicing the skills that you’ve been learning and this was reflected by good under water at their starts and turns along with other techniques that they’ve been learning.
Unfortunately, there will always be disqualifications and these are part of the learning process that swimmers go through and of the four on the night, it was very pleasing that all the swimmers came up to me and without prompting, were able to tell what they did incorrectly which shows they all have in depth knowledge of the how each stroke or turn should be performed.
It’s always very hard to just single out swimmers for the best performance especially when there were numerous great performances but….
Charlie Hughes with a two golds and two silvers along with a PB in all of these four events was an excellent achievement.
Sadie Moore with 3 Golds and two Bronze
Evie Macrae knocking over 18 seconds off her 100 IM
And lastly one of our newest members who’s only been with the club for just over a month, Imogene Linnane with a 6th place in her first ever event!
I look forward to seeing them all these swimmers competing for the club over the coming months.
