Ware Porch Gala

Sunday 1st December, Fanshawe Pool, Ware

Hertford visited our local rivals Ware, for a friendly gala on Sunday 1st December 2019. Finishing 2nd last year, we wanted to put in a strong performance to bring the Portch Trophy back to Hertford and the team didn’t disappoint. With Ware entering two teams in all races it made for a very competitive gala.

Even though it’s a very friendly gala, the swimmers wanted to perform at their very best, putting the skills they’ve been practicing in training, into practice.

There were some great performances on the day, but a special mention must go to the girls 9-11yrs team consisting of Annabel Armstrong, Emily Reason, Isla Newman-Smith, Olivia Gibbins & Sadie Moore, who were victorious in all their races and also contributed to the winning of the 8 x 25m squadron relay, so congratulations to all of them!

We were allocated a spare lane for swimmers to time trial in events of their choice. Harry Roberts stood out by entering two extra 100m events, which showed commitment to not only his own swimming, but to the club and was awarded the Hertford Teddy for his efforts on the night.

Our four club captains were presented the Portch Cup.

Final points:

1st - Hertford 124

2nd - WareA 112

3rd - WareB 57

Well done Hertford!
